The Accessibility Equipment Manufacturers Association (AEMA) and Motion Specialties have produced this safety awareness booklet to ensure that you enjoy your elevator safely.

Safety of design and operation is inherent in each personal or residential elevator. All AEMA members adhere to a strict code of ethics concerning the design, manufacture, installation and code compliance of every elevator they produce and install …..including your elevator!

Good engineering practices plus adherence to the published National Codes and Standards ensure your elevator is suited to your needs and, most importantly, your family’s safety!

These National Codes and Standards also reference requirements for a safe installation by providing information on the maximum safe running clearances, strength of walls and fastenings and certification of installing and servicing technicians through a National Training program. You can be assured that a lot of people have dedicated a lot of time and a lot of money to ensure that your elevator, when delivered and installed, will be turned over to you in pristine condition.

For continuing safe operation of your personal elevator, please read and understand the contents of this booklet, in conjunction with any information provided by the manufacturer and/or installer. It is intended to make you aware of the potential hazards that may occur when the elevator is not operated in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the safety awareness items outlined in this document.
